PTA balloon catheter with an excipient-free paclitaxel coating: acicular particles applied by ultrasonic atomization for efficient drug transfer to the vessel wall.

The EAGTY™ is a paclitaxel-coated balloon catheter for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA), designed for the endovascular treatment of peripheral arteries. It belongs to the drug-coated balloon category (DCB, drug-coated balloon): during inflation it transfers the antiproliferative drug to the vessel wall to inhibit neointimal hyperplasia, without leaving a permanent implant behind.
What sets it apart is an excipient-free coating: paclitaxel is deposited as acicular particles smaller than 300 nm using an ultrasonic atomizationtechnique, which ensures uniform particle size and reduces drug loss while the balloon is tracked to the lesion. With a drug load of 3 µg/mm², a single application sustains drug concentration in the tissue for weeks.
It is manufactured by Zhejiang Barty Medical Technology (Hangzhou, China) on three platforms —0.014″, 0.018″ and 0.035″ guidewires— with diameters from 2 to 12 mm and balloons up to 300 mm long for long lesions.
The effectiveness of a drug-coated balloon depends on how much drug reaches the vessel and how long it stays there. EAGTY is designed to optimize both.
The coating uses no excipients: paclitaxel is the only active component deposited on the balloon surface.
Needle-shaped paclitaxel crystals with an average diameter below 300 nm, which facilitate uptake by the arterial wall.
A spraying technique that ensures uniformly sized particles and reduces drug loss while the balloon travels to the lesion.
With a load of 3 µg/mm², manufacturer data show paclitaxel present in the vessel wall from 30 minutes up to 60 days.
According to the manufacturer, drug residue in plasma dissolves within about 30 minutes and is practically undetectable at 24 hours.
200, 250 and 300 mm lengths to treat long lesions with a single device, and diameters from 2 to 12 mm for every vascular territory.
EAGTY balloon compared with a control group at 6- and 12-month follow-up, based on data published by Barty Medical.
At 6 months, target lesion late lumen loss was significantly lower with EAGTY than in the control group.
6-month follow-upTarget lesion minimal lumen diameter at 6 months was significantly larger in patients treated with EAGTY.
6-month follow-upThe incidence of clinically driven target lesion revascularization (CD-TLR) at 12 months was lower than in the control group.
12-month follow-upData provided by the manufacturer (Zhejiang Barty Medical Technology Co., Ltd.). For study design, population and inclusion criteria, please request the full technical documentation.

How to read the product code: W + catheter length (cm) + diameter + balloon length (cm) + guidewire. Example: W130040012018 = 130 cm catheter, 4.0 × 120 mm balloon, 0.018″ guidewire. Availability of each combination varies by diameter; request the full code matrix.
It is an angioplasty balloon catheter coated with an antiproliferative drug —paclitaxel, in the case of EAGTY— that is transferred to the vessel wall during inflation to reduce restenosis, without leaving a permanent implant.
It means paclitaxel is deposited on the balloon without additional carrier substances. On EAGTY it is applied as uniform acicular particles by ultrasonic atomization.
There are three platforms: 0.014″ (Ø 2.0 to 5.0 mm), 0.018″ (Ø 2.0 to 9.0 mm) and 0.035″ (Ø 3.0 to 12.0 mm), with catheter lengths from 45 to 180 cm.
From 20 to 300 mm. The 200, 250 and 300 mm versions allow long lesions to be treated with a single balloon. Availability depends on diameter.
